Fire and Ice at OSV

Jul 17, 2010

This event, featuring antique hand-pump fire engines and historical ice cream making, is presented in conjunction with Handtub Junction USA, America's premier historical firefighting website. Half-price admission is offered for all firefighters on this day. Also featured will be a parade of historical hand-pump fire trucks, part of an old-time firemen's muster. Lend a hand to help pump water, as fire companies compete to see who can shoot a stream of water the furthest. Teams of firefighters will also compete in a bucket brigade. Antique hand-tubs -- and their manpower teams -- will gather at the Village from various corners of New England, New Jersey, and even California! July can be steamy in New England, so plan to cool off with demonstrations of 18th- and 19th-century ice cream making, featuring an antique "sabotierre" to make ice cream. Historically documented flavors ranged from vanilla and raspberry to the more exotic flavors of Parmesan cheese, asparagus, and beet! Samples will be offered, but for a few good licks of your own, stop at our Little Cakes ice cream window.
